Why residential water filtration matters in New Zealand

New Zealand has some of the cleanest tap water in the world on paper, but most council supplies are still
treated with chlorine or chloramine to keep the network safe. That treatment leaves a chemical taste and
smell, dries out skin and hair, damages fish and plants, and can shorten the life of expensive appliances
like dishwashers, washing machines, hot water cylinders and espresso machines. In rural areas, tank
water and bore water bring a different set of problems — sediment, iron staining, manganese, hardness
and the very real risk of bacteria such as E. coli.
A properly designed residential water filtration system removes those contaminants at the point of entry,
the point of use, or both. That means crystal-clear drinking water, scale-free showers and kettles,
healthier skin, longer-lasting plumbing, and complete peace of mind for your family. It is one of the few

Reverse osmosis (RO) drinking water systems

Reverse osmosis is the gold standard for residential drinking water in New Zealand. A multi-stage RO
system installed under your kitchen sink pushes water through a semi-permeable membrane, removing up
to 99% of dissolved solids, heavy metals, fluoride, chlorine, pesticide residues and microplastics. The
result is bottled-water quality straight from a dedicated tap.
Our most popular residential system is the Direct Flow RO 800GPD — a tankless, 4-stage RO that delivers
up to 800 gallons of fresh water per day on demand, with no bulky storage tank cluttering the cupboard. It
is ideal for busy New Zealand families, working-from-home professionals and anyone who hates the
chlorine taste of council water. Membranes typically last 2–3 years; pre-filters are changed every 6–12
months.

Whole-house water filtration systems

If you want every tap, shower and appliance in your home to enjoy filtered water — not just the kitchen —
a whole-house filtration system is the answer. We size the system to your home’s flow rate (usually 60–
100 L/min for a typical Kiwi household) and stack the right combination of stages: sediment filtration to
capture rust and grit, KDF/carbon to remove chlorine, chloramine and chemicals, scale control to protect
appliances, and UV sterilisation for tank or bore water.
Whole-house systems are particularly valuable in Christchurch (hard aquifer water), Hamilton and the
Waikato (high mineral content), Hawke’s Bay (bore water), and rural Northland and Coromandel (tank and
rainwater). They also dramatically reduce the chlorine-related skin irritation and asthma triggers that affect
a surprising number of New Zealand households.

Tank, rainwater & bore water solutions

More than 400,000 New Zealand homes rely on tank water, rainwater or private bore water — and the
regulations are far less strict than for council supply. We design custom multi-stage systems with sediment
pre-filtration, carbon block, scale control, and UV disinfection (with optional ultrafiltration) to deliver safe
drinking water that meets Drinking-water Standards for New Zealand.
